1975’te kurulan Zuidam, Hollanda merkezli ve halen aile kontrolünde bir damıtımevi. Zuidam’ın amiral gemisi olan Millstone ise, şeri etkisini isle buluşturan Millstone Peated PX gibi dikkat çekici şişelemeler de dahil olmak üzere, geniş bir malt ve çavdar viski yelpazesine sahip.

Ekim 2017’de damıtılan bu Hollanda viskisi, ilk dolum Pedro Ximénez şeri fıçılarda olgunlaştıktan sonra, Temmuz 2023’te, %48 ABV ile, soğuk filtrasyon uygulanmadan şişelenmiş. Koyu amber renginde ve renklendirici yok. 698 limitli ekspresyon, her Amsterdam ziyaretimde mutlaka uğradığım, butik içki mağazası Mitra’ya ithafen piyasaya sürülmüş.

Genç yaşına rağmen oldukça kompleks; şeri ve turba uyum içinde çalışıyorlar. Elbette is canavarı değil ama yumuşak da diyemeyiz; hem güçlü hem de dengeli. Millstone Peated PX, karakterden ödün vermeden kalite sunan viskileri takdir edebilecek meraklılar ile paylaşılacak türden bir “sohbet başlatıcı” ve/veya güzel bir akşam yemeği sonrası için ideal viskilerden.

Palate: greengage, a hint of nutmeg, raisins, and leather.

This Dutch whisky was distilled in October 2017 and bottled in July 2023, matured in first-fill Pedro Ximénez sherry butts. 48% ABV, natural colour and non-chill filtered, with a dark amber hue. It is a limited-edition single barrel, specially selected for Mitra Drankenspeciaalzaken, with only 698 bottles released.

Complexity is high for its age, with PX and peat working together in harmony. It’s not a peat monster, but it’s certainly not shy either; striking a balance that makes it both bold and elegant. This is the kind of after-dinner dram best shared with enthusiasts who appreciate whiskies that possess richness and character without sacrificing finesse.
