Diageo her yıl, devasa viski seçkisini öne çıkaran “Special Release” serisini piyasaya sürüyor. 2021’de satışa sunulan Lagavulin 12, “Legends Untold” temalı koleksiyonun güçlü üyelerinden biri.

Lagavulin 12, yeniden dolum Amerikan burbon meşe fıçılarda olgunlaştıktan ve 2008’de distile edildikten sonra, 2020 yılında, renklendirici kullanılmadan, soğuk filtrasyon uygulanmadan, soluk altın renginde, %56.5 ABV ile şişelenmiş.

Viski, kamp ateşinde patlayan is bombası gibi; fıçı sertliği etkisini daha da artıyor. İlk koklayış çok yoğun gelebilir, bu yüzden burnunuzu kadehe fazla yaklaştırmaktan kaçının. Bunun yerine, birkaç santimetre mesafe bırakın ve aromalarının yavaşça açığa çıkmasına izin verin.

Lagavulin, her zaman viski serilerinin ağabeyleri olmuş, cesur duruşlarıyla dikkat çeken ekspresyonlar üreten bir damıtımevi. “The Lion’s Fire” da kesinlikle onlardan biri ve 2021 ekibine güç kattığı muhakkak.

Diageo’s Special Releases highlight the company’s wide-ranging selection each year. In 2021, the ‘Legends Untold’ theme took center stage, introducing another 12-year-old Lagavulin.

Nose; smoke, vanilla, honey.
Palate; dried fruits, peat, sea salt, sweet spices, rosemary.
Finish; medium to long, malt, more peat, black pepper, warm and tingling at the end.
The whisky requires a touch of air or water to reveal its character fully. As it opens up, it alternates between a fruity profile and smoky candy bars (I know it sounds strange).

Lagavulin 12 is a bourbon-driven bottling from the series, fully matured in refill American oak casks. Distilled in 2008 and bottled in 2020 at a cask strength of 56.5% ABV, this expression remains natural in colour and non-chill filtered, displaying a pale golden hue.

The whisky is like a smoke bomb igniting in a campfire, its intensity heightened by the raw power of cask strength. The first whiff can be overwhelming, so resist burying your nose in the glass. Instead, leave a few centimetres of space and let the aromas unfold gradually.

Lagavulin has always been the big brother of whisky lineups, producing expressions that command attention with their bold character. The Lion’s Fire is one of them, undoubtedly adding strength to the 2021 lineup.
