İskoçya’nın ilk lisanslı damıtımevi olan Glenlivet’e ait 18 yıllık standard ekspresyonun, 2020’de güncellenen ve tasarımı yenilenenen şişelemesi.

Burun; bal, vanilya, elma, mango ve çok hafif muskat.
Damak; taze mango, elma devam ediyor, malt kuruluğu ve biber.
Bitiş; orta uzunlukta ve yumuşak. Meşe baskın.
Kadehte hava aldıkça çiçeksi notalar ortaya çıkıyor. Parfüm şişesi koklar gibi hissettiriyor.

Mat altın sarısı renginde ve karamel kullanılıyor. %40 ABV ve soğuk filtrasyon uygulanıyor. Olgunlaştırmada birinci ve ikinci dolum Amerikan burbon ve çoğunlukla Avrupa şeri fıçılar tercih edilmiş.

Üstte gördüğünüz listede, “Sherried Speyside” kategorisi başta olmak üzere bir çok ödülü var. Fakat bunların çoğunluğu daha yüksek alkol oranına (%43 ABV) sahip eski ekspresyonuna ait. Daha çok klasik Speyside scotch olarak görülmesi gerektiği kanaatindeyim. Çünkü Glenlivet 18’in, gerçekten iyi şerilenmiş bir viskinin yanına bile yaklaşamayacağı rahatlıkla söylebilirim.

“Glenlivet 18, yaşı kadar olgun olmayan/olamayan, hayal kırıklığı yaratan viskilerden biri olarak aklımda yer ediyor.” Haziran 2020’de aldığım notlardan. Fikrim hala değişmedi.
Fiyat/performans oranı düşük. Rakipleri arasında öncelikle tercih edeceğim bir viski olmaz. Ancak sıcak ve nemli yaz günlerinde, büyük buz ya da soğutucu taşlar ile, üzerine çok kafa yormamak kaydıyla, keyif verebilir.

The 18-year-old standard expression of Glenlivet, Scotland’s first licensed distillery, with its bottling updated and redesigned in 2020.

Nose; honey, apple, vanilla, a hint of nutmeg.
Palate; fresh mango, more apple peels, malt dryness and pepper.
Finish; dominant oak, smooth, medium length.
After a few minutes in the glass, the whisky gets floral and it feels like smelling perfume.

Vintage gold-like but caramel coloured with 40% ABV., chill-filtered, 18-year-old and matured in European sherry casks and first-fill and second-fill American bourbon casks.

In the list above, it has won many awards, primarily in the ‘Sherried Speyside’ category. However, most of these awards are for the previous expression with higher (43% ABV) alcohol content. Glenlivet 18 must be considered a classic Speyside Scotch because it can easily be said that it can’t come close to a well-sherried whisky.

“Glenlivet 18, in my mind, stands as one of those whiskies that are not as mature as its age suggests, which leaves a sense of disappointment.” This is a note I took in June 2020, and my opinion hasn’t changed a bit.
The whisky has a low price/performance ratio and wouldn’t be my first choice among its competitors. However, during hot summer days, it can provide enjoyment with a large ice cube or chilling stones.”

P.S:

1. “The single malt that started it all” refers to the distillery’s roots. Because Glenlivet is the first legal distillery in the whole of Scotland.
2. Thanks to the River Livet, which runs underground for several kilometers, The Glenlivet Distillery always has fresh, pure and clear water available.
