Glenfiddich, halen dünyanın en büyük Speyside viski üreticilerinden. Reserve Cask ise duty-free’ler için tasarlanmış özel bir ekspresyon ve damıtımevinin fıçı koleksiyonunun bir parçası.

Reserve Cask özelinde Solera’nın önemli bir rolü var; Glenfiddich 15’te kullanılan aynı “marrying” yaklaşımı ile viskide tutarlı ve dengeli bir yapı önceliklendirilmiş. Ancak düşük ABV ve soğuk filtrasyon viskinin gerçek anlamda derinlik ve zenginlik kazanmasının önüne geçmiş. Reserve Cask standart ekspresyonlarla karşılaştırıldığında daha yumuşak ve şeri etkisi belirgin; çekirdek ailenin uzak kuzeni gibi duruyor.

Yeni başlayanlar veya rahat içim sevenler için uygun; viskide gövde ve fıçı netliği arayan detay odaklı tayfa için ise biraz fazla garantici kalabilir. Genel olarak, travel retail çizgisine göre lezzetli diyebiliriz. Ancak cazip bir fiyat ile denk gelmedikten sonra peşinden koşulacak bir şişe değil.

Nose: lime, caramel, honey.
Palate: golden apples, sweet vanilla, gentle spice and sun-dried figs.
Finish: short, light-bodied and sweet, oak, pepper and malt.
After a few minutes in the glass, the whisky becomes fruitier and sweeter.

The whisky is gold in colour, with caramel added, and is chill-filtered, NAS, bottled at 40% ABV. It is matured in reserved sherry casks, which are then brought together in a Solera VAT before bottling.

The Solera component plays a key role here, as Glenfiddich applies the same marrying approach that helped define the 15 Year Old, prioritising consistency and a rounded mouthfeel. Compared with the core age stated range, Reserve Cask comes across as a softer, more sherry-leaning relative. The Solera vatting keeps the profile cohesive, yet the low ABV and chill filtration limit the whisky’s ability to show real depth and texture.

It works comfortably for newcomers or relaxed sipping, but more detail-focused drinkers looking for structure and cask clarity may find it a bit too restrained. Overall, it is a competent travel retail expression, though not an essential purchase unless the price is particularly attractive.
