1823 yılında Greenock’lu bir mühendis tarafından kurulan Auchentoshan, İskoçya’da üç kez distilasyon yapan tek damıtımevi olma özelliğine sahip. 2011 yılında, 10 yıllık yerine piyasaya sürülen 12 yaşındaki ekspresyon ise, halen damıtımevinin en çok tercih edilen şişelemesi.

Damak; limon rendesi, fındık, çimen, meşe, beyaz biber.
Bitiş; kısa-orta arası, baharat ve malt kuruluğu.

Auchentoshan 12 üç kez damıtılıyor, soğuk filtrasyon uygulanmıyor fakat renklendirici mevcut. Altın sarısı renginde, en az 12 yıl boyunca burbon ve şeri fıçılarda olgunlaşıyor ve %40 ABV ile şişeleniyor.

Damıtımevine tabiriyle; üç kez damıtma viskiyi daha berrak hale getirerek, meyve ve narenciyenin güçlü şekilde öne çıkmasına sebep oluyor. Nispeten düşük alkol oranına (%40) rağmen, viskinin aroma profili gayet başarılı. Yumuşak burundan sonra, damakta ilginç ve çeşitli notalar mevcut. Fakat bitiş, diğer ikisine kıyasla zayıf. Auchentoshan 12, kokteyller için güzel bir seçenek olarak da düşünülebilir.

Established in 1823 by an engineer from Greenock, Auchentoshan is the only Scottish single malt distillery to insist on triple distillation. Released in 2011, as a replacement for the 10-year-old bottling, the 12-year-old is still the flagship expression of the distillery.

Nose; citrus, honey, varnished wood.
Palate; lemon zest, nuts, grass, oak and white pepper.
Finish; short to medium, spice and malty dryness.

Auchentoshan 12 is triple distilled, non-chill-filtered, golden honey in colour (caramel added), matured in bourbon and sherry casks before being bottled at 40% ABV.

According to the distillery, through triple distillation, all the impurities in the liquid are removed, allowing the strong notes of fruit and citrus to come through. Even though it has a low alcohol by volume(40%), the whisky shows a good aroma profile. After a smooth nose, you can find interesting notes on the palate, but in the finish, not so much. It is also a lovely option for cocktails.
